Stamping Techniques to Try - Die Cut Masking

Hello and welcome to my blog. It is time for another Stamping Techniques To Try blog hop. We are featuring the die cut masking technique. This was a new technique to me so I had lots of fun experimenting.

Basically this technique involves creating a mask from a die cut, then colouring around it so when the mask is removed, you are left with the blank negative space. I am sure you have done normal masking before where you make a mask of a stamped image so you can stamp overlapping the original image without getting any ink on it. Well the mask premise is the same in this technique, the only difference is that there is no stamped image you are masking. You are instead creating a negative space that has colouring and stamping around it. My card might help visualise it for you.

Isn't this stag just amazing! He is part of an equally amazing bundle of a stamp set and matching dies. Check them out here -

So the mask on my card is the dashing deer. Using the thinlits, I cut the deer out of thin photocopy paper. Then I applied some removable adhesive and placed him onto my Whisper White card stock. I sponged the panel in Shaded Spruce, being very careful not to lift the edges of the die cut. Once  I was happy with the sponging, I stamped the trees in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. Then the mask was removed to reveal a white deer.

This was a really fun technique and one I will use again very soon. The possibilities of this technique are swirling through my head.

Now that  you have seen my project, make sure you check out what everyone else has done.
